EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Pacific Paleontology, PaPa, Inc., is well-versed in the regulatory landscape of mitigation paleontology in California, which has changed significantly in the past 20 years owing largely to legislative protections for fossils and best practices in mitigation paleontology from the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. But more advancement is needed. For example, there is a need to have professional paleontologists with an extensive California background on site during construction projects. A professional paleontologist is someone who is published in paleontology, educated and degreed in paleontology, experienced in both the field as well as research, and employed in the paleontological profession. Geologists and Archeologists traditionally don’t have the same skill sets as working paleontologists and the two have been regulatorily separated for over a decade. It would add capacity to the municipal operations of any project to have Pacific Paleontology on the team.
